Themes: Sports, Resilience, Entrepreneurship, Teamwork
Charlie Gubb is a former professional rugby league player, entrepreneur and fan favourite, best known for his fearless approach to the game during his time with the New Zealand Warriors.
Born and raised in Wellington, Charlie began his sporting career in rugby union before making the switch to league. Charlie made his NRL debut in 2013 and quickly earned a reputation as a tough, uncompromising forward whose physical playing style and larger-than-life personality made him a favourite among teammates and supporters alike.
After stepping away from professional rugby league in 2019, Charlie returned to Wellington and began exploring life beyond the game. His next chapter saw him venture into business, establishing Porta Kings, a portable toilet company servicing the Wellington region. It was an unconventional move from professional sport, but one that demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to take risks and ability to find opportunity in unexpected places.
Known for his quick wit, infectious humour and down-to-earth nature, Charlie brings a refreshingly candid perspective to life after professional sport. From the rugby league field to the realities of running a business, his journey is one of resilience, reinvention and backing yourself when the next chapter looks nothing like the last.
