Matt Heath is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable broadcasters, writers and entertainers, known for his quick wit, sharp observations and ability to connect with audiences.
He first gained national attention as the creator and star of the cult television series Back of the Y Masterpiece Television, which went on to inspire international versions and the feature film The Devil Dared Me To. Around the same time, his band Deja Voodoo built a loyal following with their uniquely Kiwi blend of humour and rock.

He is also a key voice in the Alternative Commentary Collective, bringing his distinctive humour to coverage of cricket, rugby and sailing.
Alongside broadcasting, Matt has written extensively on life, happiness and mental health. A long-time columnist for the New Zealand Herald, he was named the paper’s Happiness Editor and later released the bestselling book A Life Less Punishing: 13 Ways to Love the Life You Got.
On stage, Matt blends humour, storytelling and thoughtful insight, drawing on a career spent in media, entertainment and live broadcasting. Whether hosting events or speaking to audiences, he brings intelligence, energy and a uniquely Kiwi perspective.
