James Nokise

James Nokise is a Samoan–Welsh comedian, writer and social commentator known for his intelligent humour, quick thinking and engaging stage presence, making him a sought-after MC and event host across Aotearoa.
Known for blending political satire with personal storytelling, James has built a reputation for tackling big ideas with humour, warmth and insight. His ability to connect with audiences while navigating complex topics makes him a compelling host for conferences, panels and live events.
James first came to prominence through Pulp Comedy and has since become a familiar face across New Zealand television, appearing on 7 Days, The Project and Have You Been Paying Attention?. A veteran of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, he has also performed at major international festivals including Edinburgh, Melbourne, London and New York.
His work has been recognised with numerous accolades, including two Billy T Award nominations, the Fred Award for Best New Zealand Show, and most recently the Topp Prize for his contribution to New Zealand comedy.
Alongside his stand-up career, James is also an award-winning podcaster and international correspondent for ABC Pacific and Pacific Media Network, reporting from locations including Berlin, Palau and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
