Josh Komen
Roles: Keynote Speaker, Speaker
Themes: Lifestyle & Wellbeing, Motivation, Sports
At 23, Josh Komen was one of the fastest 800m runners in New Zealand, training with the dream of representing his country on the world stage.
Then, in an instant, everything changed.
Josh was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia — not once, but twice. What followed was a decade-long battle that pushed him to the limits of human endurance. He faced deep depression, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, an allogeneic stem cell transplant, a medically induced coma, graft-versus-host disease and several heart attacks. For five years he lived in Australia undergoing treatment, far from home and everything familiar.
Despite the relentless challenges, Josh kept moving forward.
In the midst of that journey, he climbed Mount Everest and completed more than 200 skydives — powerful reminders of what is possible even in the face of extraordinary adversity.
Today, more than a decade after his first diagnosis, Josh is alive, healthy and thriving. He is married, a father, and dedicates his work to helping others navigate life’s toughest moments.
Josh is now a motivational speaker, breathwork coach and author who shares practical tools for resilience, emotional wellbeing and managing stress. Drawing on his own experiences, he helps individuals and organisations respond to pressure, uncertainty and adversity with calm, clarity and courage.
On stage, Josh’s story is both confronting and uplifting — a powerful reminder of the strength people can discover when they refuse to give up.

“Josh recently spoke at our sales summit to a room of 150 people on his life to date, his learnings, his mindset and his gratefulness for the life he has today. Prior to the session we discussed the key messages I was hoping the team would take from the session and Josh absolutely nailed them.
It’s a highly personal story obviously, Josh tells it with the rawness you would expect, it can be heavy but ultimately its inspiring and so many of our people took a huge amount from it and vowing to look at life/work differently afterwards.
Our business is largely hardy rural folk, I could not have expected the reaction the team had to this session, they were so moved and inspired they leapt to a standing ovation at the conclusion. A tough act to follow for the rest of the summit I promise!”
